Fisherman's Dream

What happened to the fisherman's dream,
When they rolled that last boat down.
What happened to the fisherman's dream,
When he cast his last net around.

What happened to the fisherman's luck,
When they drove him over the hill.
What happened to the fisherman's dream,
When they laid him in the ground.

Tell me, did it fade away?
Did it fade on down to the ocean.
Did it fade away,
Did it fade on down to the sea.

What happened to the fisherman's love,
Was it nowhere to be found.
What happened to the love of the fisherman,
When they drove that last nail down.

Tell me, did it fade away?
Did it fade on down to the ocean.
Did it fade away,
Did it fade on down to the sea,
The ocean and the sea.

[Fade away, fade through the ocean]
[Fade away, fade through the sea]

Tell me, did it fade away?
Did it fade on down to the ocean.
Did it fade away,
Did it fade on down to the sea.

sitenote:
John called this song a 'hymn'. A version with the Scottish National Choir recorded in April was rejected, however.
May 2004, Jim Lampi played Fisherman's Dream on the Chapman stick. This took place in London after the première of the film The Saddest Music in the World... (screenplay Kazuo Ishiguro).
After the screening, there was a competition featuring seven musical acts performing their saddest music. Jim Lampi was one of them. No idea why Big John was not invited.
