Sapphire, John Martyn (Island) Four Stars
British singer/ songwriter John Martyn has been making terrific albums for more than a decade, and this is one of his best. Martyn's got a wonderfully expressive, smokey-sounding voice, and this LP's largely electronic backing tracks -lots of tasteful synthesizers, Linn drums and guitar- enhances the atmosphere. Particularly enchanting is Martyn's version of Over The Rainbow.
