Deliver Me (promo)

Sister Bliss featuring John Martyn

1 Dec 2000
The Bottom Line:

Every DJ deserves a promo.

These are essentially not JM promos so therefore excluded from this site's promo section.

The recording was made 17 August 2000 in the Swan Yard studios in Islington, London, and has been played for the first time by Pete Tong on Radio 1 on the 17th November. So the first promo came reasonably late, December 2000: a single sided white label 12" vinyl. There was only a stamp on the label and the mold number is BLISS 001.

The flip side is empty in a special way. It is full of groove but without any sound... So we are looking at 17 minutes and 56 seconds of awesome silence. At 45 rpm of course. Which is sort of good for testing your turntable's rumble.

"deliver me"
March 12th 2001

Sister Bliss follows up September's monumental 'Sister Sister' with 'Deliver Me'. 'Deliver Me' is possibly one of the most unlikely records produced all year; an emotional house cover of a track by The Beloved with, folk-legend, John Martyn on guest vocals. 'Deliver Me' originally appeared on The Beloved's 1996 album 'X'. Sister Bliss has long since been a fan;

"I've always loved that song, always believed it should be a massive hit. They are one of the most under-rated pioneers of dance music"

Sister Bliss has a similar enduring passion for the blues-tinged voice of maverick musician John Martyn. It was the need to introduce this voice to people whom otherwise might never have heard it which lead [sic] to this beguiling collaboration. Sister Bliss explains:

"He's probably the best singer I've ever had the honour of working with, a genius"

The track has been given the remix treatment by an impressive array of producers. In demand X-Press 2, fresh from last year's 'AC/DC', deliver the goods with their Main Mix and perennial Pete Tong favourite Lee Coombs demonstrates just why he's viewed with such high regard with his tempestuous rolling acid-funk re-working.

A): X-Press 2 Main Mix
B): Lee Coombs Remix

'Deliver Me' is released March 12th through Multiply.

Sister Bliss' international DJ'ing schedule continues having just returned from South Africa with Renaissance and a much coveted appearance at New York's infamous Twilo she will shortly depart for Liquid in Tokyo.
