Permanent #1

This picture was shot for Permanent Records. Probably around the time they released Couldn't Love You More (September 1992). It was not used until April 1997 though, for the cover of The Very Best Of.

Lahri Bond took this picture himself in July 1992 at the Iron Horse, Northampton, Massachusetts:
"John had just come off the stage and was soaking wet from sweat. I had a great talk with him, leading to the interview published on the site."
John was touring the US that summer. A nice touch is the 'Piano For Sale' sign behind his head.
Perhaps the owner decided to put it up after hearing John play the guitar...

This scan was taken from the Cooltide program. It must be a promotional picture in use by Permanent Records but they never credited it to my knowledge. My guess is it was taken by Julian Broad.

Kentish Town 1987 - 1

Robert Laugier: "I saw John twice in October 1987, the first time in the Hammersmith Odeon [09 Oct], and the second one, two days later, in the Town & Country Club of Kentish Town.
For the first concert, John arrived wearing a raincoat which he kept only during the first song, and then took off.
Two days later, he arrived wearing with the same raincoat... but kept it on all concert long!
Each time John was lowering a hand, sweat was flowing down the sleeves like a cascade."
